Just Set Off The Smoke Alarms In The House With My Sigelei

So last night my GF was saying I was going to set off the smoke alarms because I was blowing some huge clouds and I told her that it doesn't work like that because I read it on the interwebz.

Lo and behold I'm rocking some clouds laying in bed with her tonight and she is telling me to stop and I say, "but babe. the internetz, remember???"

2 seconds later the entire house is filled with that dreadful ear shattering beeping and everyone is getting out of bed (it was 11 PM) yelling and there was a big commotion with everyone freaking out and I'm in here opening windows and fanning the air with pillows so no one would know it was because of me vaping because I would constantly get crap about vaping inside for the rest of eternity.

So yea.. all you vapers out there.. don't fish bowl your rooms with vape. Guess we aren't immune to smoke detectors.

Vaping In A Hotel Room?

I haven't traveled since I started vaping so I really haven't thought about this. I'm on a business trip and staying at a fairly nice hotel. I've been running outside to vape and was thinking that I could possibly vape in my room.

Now I've never tested it but will the vapor set off the smoke alarm? I'm thinking that some smoke alarms are looking for a particulate amount which vapor would be just that. I really don't want to test that anyway since it wouldn't be a good thing as I am here for the next two weeks.

I tried vaping under the sheets but the clouds just don't seem to want to be contained. I'm thinking that the bathroom seems to be ok since they get steamy during a shower.

Anyone have experience with vape clouds and smoke alarms?

Vaping In Hotels: Beware!

So I am on a business trip in Madison, WI. I am staying in a hotel (a Hilton to be exact) and I was just hanging out in my room, watching TV, and doing a bit of vaping in my boxers. Then it happened.... the fire alarm went off. I about pooped my pants it caught me so off guard. I ran down to the lobby to explain what happened when the fire department showed up and started asking questions. When they found out that my room was the one that tripped the alarm, they instantly started treating me like a criminal. You would have thought I just murdered their first born child.

Eventually I got the "you shouldn't smoke inside, it's against the law" lecture from one of the firefighters and when I told him I didn't realize it was an issue in a private room where I'm not actually smoking, he went off on me. He told me that regardless of what it is, any type of "smoking" is against the law and that I should have just told someone I was smoking and it would have saved everyone from a headache. He just could not comprehend why I was confused as to why the alarm went off when there was no smoke present. He got my name, phone number, and date of birth from me right before he left, not sure what that was about. The hotel attendant was much more understanding, to whom I apologized profusely for the chaos I caused. She said it's not the first time it has happened and that she is going to talk to the building manager about some new signs addressing the issue of vaping in the rooms.

After doing some research on my own, I found a few things to be true.

1. Smoke alarms arent necessarily built to only detect smoke. Some can be set off by steam, dust, or any type of aerosol.
2. Dane County, WI just recently (Jan 2015) enacted a ban on vaping indoors and that apparently applies to private hotel rooms as well.
3. Public fire alarms are really fracking loud!!!

Be sure to do a bit of research on local vape laws when you travel, it could save you some trouble and legal issues. Hopefully this doesn't come back to bite me in the butt, it was an honest mistake and had I known, I wouldn't have vaped inside in the first place.

Just thought I would share my story so others may learn from my stupid mistake. Save yourself the embarrassment and look up the laws, ask an employee about rules involving vaping, and for the love of God and all that is holy, don't vape near a smoke detector.

How Can I Vape Without The Alarms Going Off All The Time?

My dad installed new alarms recently, and these are the kinds that detect vapor. So the alarms have gone off four or five times now, and it's really anoyying cause now I can't vape in my room. They've never said anything about me vaping in my room. They don't care for all I know. Until the alarms started going off. Please don't tell me to o just obey my parents and stop doing it. I was a smoker before, and vaping stoped me from smoking cigarettes. I'm 22 also. What should I do? Because I don't wanna have to go outside all the time. Would opening the window work?

It's These Kind Of People That Are Going To Ruin It For All Of Us...

Tonight I took my Mom grocery shopping, and as we were walking down the cereal aisle of Meijer (large chain supermarket in michigan, a little more upscale that walmart) this guy, probably late 20's early 30's comes around the corner with his girlfriend/wife, holding a box mod of some sort in one hand and a bottle of juice in the other, then proceeds to take a huge hit and blow a huge cloud, fogging out part of the aisle for a few seconds. There were a couple other shoppers in the area and I didn't see their reaction, but I was a little disgusted- not at the vapor, which smelled like vanilla or something as we walked through it, but that he didn't even try to hide it. I mentioned to my Mom a few minutes later that "those" kind of people are going to ruin it for everybody. Not an appropriate place for blowing clouds- not that there are any rules against it, but still, have some courtesy for others. Not everyone likes walking through clouds while shopping. I didn't object, however I had left mine at home after taking a few hits, and was fine until we got back- about an hour and a half. If I had gone by myself, I would have vaped in the car, but left it above the sun visor in the locked car while I shopped. No need to take it inside, even though mine isn't capable of producing thick clouds. The whole time we were in the store he carried it around in plain sight, even when he wasn't hitting it. Just an observation. No, there is no secondhand smoke, no horrid smell, and no messy ash, but it looks like smoke. That's all it takes for some people to complain.

Not Sure If I Should Be Happy

I just found out my 17 year old cousin started vaping a few months back and he was afraid to tell me, and his mother! To be honest, part of me is relieved!

a little background: I come from an entire family of smokers, aunts, uncles, cousins, all of us smoke with the exception of maybe 5 (out of 50+ people). Most of us starting at around the age of 13-15, it just seems like the thing to do in our clan I guess. Secretly I worry about my younger cousins picking up on our bad habits, just as I did. Seeing your entire family smoke and being around it all the time, its kind of hard to imagine NOT ending up a smoker yourself.

any who, when he told he was vaping, and that he things cigarette smoke is disgusting... I smiled inside soo much. there is hope for us yet!

Smoke Co2 Alarm Recommendation

I know this is kind of a strange question but I see people say all the time that they set off their smoke and CO2 alarms. Who has a smoke CO2 alarm that they can Vape in the next room and it doesn't set off I need to get another detector but I want to make sure that it's not going to go off every time I Vape in a room next to it a battery-powered not hardwired

Vaping In Flights & Airports √

For a 25 yrs strong cigarette smoker it had always been my motive to fly only thru airports which had a designated smoking room / lounge. This is since the ICAO ruling came about “no on-board smoking” internationally somewhere in 1999 (smoking in domestic flights was banned in 1988, with all flights becoming smoke free by 1990 in the US).

I also took to avoid long-haul journeys and invariably chose flights with a stopover. Basically got down midway to smoke! Upon switching over to ‘vaping’ things were no different. I still took stopover flights ~ to run to the nearest smoking room and vape!

However, with changing times - and worldwide acceptance / awareness to vaping - things have started to look promising for us vapers! Most folks now seem to understand that vaping is not ‘smoking’. So, as long as you don’t blow arrogant clouds you might be able to get away vaping at most airports today, even while comfortably sitting anywhere, not specifically in the ‘smoking zones’.

Things you should consider (while vaping at airports):

I am a frequent traveller. Fly around the globe - and have successfully vaped in every airport, even where smoking areas are not available. There is however a caveat: we should not be arrogant. We should remember that even today many folks consider vaping akin to an act of smoking. Thus, if anyone asks you to stop, stop you should, without going into discussions about 'how it is different - and how it is not harming them’. That discourse could cost you your connecting flight if nothing else!

Packing your vape gear/s right:

Accepting the fact that you should not 'blow clouds’ it’d be wise for us to leave our RDAs and Mech Mods behind and pack just an Ego with a Clearo instead. 99% of airports have no issues with e-Cigarettes in our hand baggage, unless off course they look like something else (does Innokin Coolfire II ring a bell?).

A cigalike is our safest bet (remember there’s never a ban on carrying cigarettes on board!), will thus pass thru without a/ny questions asked. An Ego or a 14500 mod (looks like a cigar!) is fine too ~ but so is also a box mod. B’coz a box mod could be construed as an “External Power Bank”, for our cellphone and the like/s.

Packing our e-liquid/s:

ICAO regulations specify that liquids in 100ml containers (max) could be carried on board. And they need to be carried inside ‘see thru’ plastic packets of size 1L (max), which is a standard sized ziplock bag. So, this is the packet where our e-juices should go. A 10ml bottle, or two, should suffice the ‘in flight’ urges, right? The filled clearo could remain attached to our Ego, no problems there, and could remain inside the backpack / laptop bag.

Don’t carry expensive gears:

For the simple fact that many nations, especially in the Middle East, ban use of e-cigs in their countries, thus their Immigration Officials might confiscate your gear upon arrival (tho I had no problems carrying my vape stuff thru United Arab Emirates’ airports). So, an Ego lost would always be better than handing over my WAE-II (Wizards Apprentice Evolved) or Provari, right? Let them thus be safe in our "checked-in" baggage!

Vaping inside the flight:

If you’re lucky you might find the seat beside you vacant. In which case vape along! The trick is in going super stealthy. Don’t blow much vapour out. A cigalike works out the best. Even for an Ego / Clearo combo try and inhale slowly ~ keep most of it within yourself ~ and gradually exhale the rest inconspicuously.

Myth: Vaping triggers the on-board Smoke Alarm! ~UNTRUE!

Have you noticed the flight crew spraying Aerosol inside the cabin just before landing? Happens with most flights - thru most airports. If that didn’t trigger the alarms how could our vapour do?

I thus took it upon myself to check. Vaped inside the on-board bathroom (many times) midway thru my flight. And bingo! No alarms. I didn’t even try concealing my exhaled vapour - didn’t mellow it down - and blew straight out. No problems!

Yes, it’s worthwhile to note that I didn’t use a RDA with a mod. Thus the vapour exhaled was not as thick as it’d be under regular practice. But I wouldn’t be carrying them on-board anyway, would I?

Airport Vaping Zone/s:

Things are definitely looking brighter, for us vapers! Heathrow airport (London) has recently installed (2014) a “vaping zone”. The first, and only one, of its kind. It’s a pretty nifty feat considering that Heathrow has a “no smoking” policy inside the airport. It might just be a matter of time before others follow suite. NJoy are you there? Hint, hint

BOTTOMLINE:

So yes, vaping in the airports and within the flight is possible. We need to just remember that courtesies play a big role in it. Vape for your nix-fix, but not for sporting clouds! Leave that extravagance for your vape meets and cloud comps or at home. Avoid being a nuisance and respect the choice/s of a non-smoker beside you ~ the same way as you’d like him to leave you alone with your vaping escapade.

It's wise nonetheless to find a quiet corner and vape without drawing much attention. I have done it - and even with some travellers noticing me - none objected! Btw, I've noticed a few more vapers in the airports - and had a conversation with them too. O' yes, most of them are on ECF as well, if not on their local vape forums!

Folks, pls post your flight pics and stories too

Non-smokers Starting Vaping - Disturbing To Me

I've been away from ECF for awhile but due to the influx of new devices, I recently returned (and got a bunch of new vape gear, but that's another story ).

Was just browsing the New Members forum and I am very disturbed by the amount of posts being made by people who have never smoked asking for advice on how to "blow clouds", "get into vaping" or even "get a better buzz" from vaping.

Of course, the vast majority of replies in these threads are from knowledgeable and helpful ECF'ers telling these poor, ignorant folks that it's probably a bad idea to start vaping 36mg juice in a sub-ohm device if you've never smoked...and that is great!

I just can't help to think that all these young (I'm assuming) non-smokers taking up vaping and "blowing clouds" can't be good for our cause and I find it quite disturbing.

FULL DISCLOSU I currently vape on an SX Mini / Goliath @ .4 ohms and can blow some pretty good clouds, but that's not what it's all about for me...it's about staying off the ciggies.

Well It Happened_ Alarm Rang A Hole In My Heart

i have no idea how it even computed that was what the sound was_ i've been sitting for the last 5 minutes waiting to hear sirens coming from the fire station down the street; no idea if smoke detectors in Germany have an auto-call or will warn my landlord (he has presence detectors for some parts of the house which send him notifications, either by phone or email)

i've been vaping inside the studio for 4 months now, why now? this wasn't even the heaviest day, nor the closest i've vaped to the loud ........ [i've talked abt this before and know it happens random, sometimes just from MTL, just rant... venting really]

the first one to say relax... have a vape am-na bite'em in the nose!

should, i be doing something other than turning it off and airing the room out?

Smoke Detector Went Off?

While I've been vaping, the smoke detector has gone off about four times. This has never happened before. I'm not sure if it's just the chemicals, or because of the battery. Because I've been getting this light smell of something, maybe the battery? It's kinda pugent. Maybe that's the cause because it's defective? Like the smell sets off the alarms?
